A 30-year-old Lawrence woman was taken to a Topeka-area hospital with injuries that first responders did not believe to be life-threatening Wednesday night after a crash south of town.
Two vehicles crashed at 9 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of U.S. 59 Highway and North 1200 Road, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.
“According to a preliminary investigation, the driver of a 2012 Acura proceeded into the intersection during a red light and attempted to turn left and northbound from N 1200 Road onto U.S. Highway 59,” George Diepenbrock, a spokesperson for DGSO, said via email Wednesday night. “This caused the Acura to collide with a 2019 southbound Buick Envision that had a green light.”
The Acura’s driver was the 30-year-old Lawrence woman. Her three juvenile passengers and the driver of the Buick, an 87-year-old Baldwin City man, and his passenger, were checked at the scene and not transported, Diepenbrock said.
Traffic was being rerouted shortly after the crash Wednesday. The area is also under construction.
The red pin on the map below shows the approximate location of the intersection.
