The Lawrence/Douglas County chapter of Women for Kansas will soon hold the first forum of election season for the Democratic candidates for Douglas County district attorney.

The three candidates include incumbent DA Suzanne Valdez; Tonda Hill, currently a prosecutor in Wyandotte County; and Dakota Loomis, a Lawrence defense attorney. All three are Lawrence residents.

The Democratic candidates will face off in the Tuesday, Aug. 6 primary election. The person who receives the most votes will advance to the Tuesday, Nov. 5 general election to face Republican Mike Warner.

The forum is set for 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 15 in the auditorium of the Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vermont St.

All are welcome in the nonpartisan civic organization, according to Women for Kansas.

The district attorney position is countywide. The race will appear on all registered Democratic Douglas County voters’ ballots in the Aug. 6 primary, and the race will appear on every ballot in the Nov. 5 general election.
