A McLouth man was taken to the hospital with injuries that first responders believed to be serious Sunday after a crash on U.S. Highway 24 near the Lawrence Regional Airport.

A 36-year-old Lawrence man driving a Freightliner tractor was slowing down on the highway to turn into a private drive just before 3:30 p.m. Sunday.

Joseph Michael Hill, 49, of McLouth, was slowing down behind him in a Chevrolet G2500, according to a Kansas Highway Patrol crash report.

A 19-year-old Oskaloosa man driving a Dodge Ram 2500 was following Hill too close and struck the rear of his vehicle, according to the report; then a 19-year-old Emporia woman driving a Toyota Camry struck the Dodge Ram from behind, according to the report.

None of the other three drivers were injured, and all four were wearing seat belts, according to the report.

Hill was taken to Stormont Vail Health in Topeka.
