Street near KU football stadium to close for construction

As work on the KU football stadium continues, a street adjacent to the stadium will soon close to most traffic through mid-January 2025.

Contractors will close Fambrough Drive, or West 11th Street, from Missouri Street to Mississippi Street beginning Monday, Aug. 26. It’s a stretch of about a quarter-mile. The closure is for work associated with the stadium project.

“Flagging crews will be present at the closure to allow KU busses and construction traffic to continue to use this street,” according to a traffic update from the City of Lawrence.

All other traffic will need to follow the detours on Mississippi Street or Missouri Street to Ninth Street, according to the city.

The city anticipates that the closure will be removed in mid-January, pending weather or other delays.

The red pin on this map indicates Fambrough Drive, roughly in the middle of the closed stretch.
