Parking at downtown meters, lots and garages will be free on Labor Day, and trash and recycling pickup will be delayed by one day during the holiday week.
Residential customers whose normal trash pickup day is Monday will be delayed to Tuesday, Tuesday to Wednesday, and so forth, according to a city news release. There will be no yard waste collections or bulk item pickups through the holiday week, and there will be no roll-off service, cart/dumpster swaps, deliveries or maintenance on the holiday or Saturday of the holiday week (Sept. 7).
Commercial solid waste collection routes will be collected on schedule for the week, except that there will be no cardboard recycling service on Labor Day outside of the downtown district.
Lawrence Transit fixed-route and paratransit buses will not operate on Monday. Regular service will resume Tuesday.
City of Lawrence and Douglas County government offices will be closed Monday.
The Lawrence Public Library will be closed Sunday and Monday, Sept. 1 and 2, but the digital library is open 24/7.
The Outdoor Aquatic Center, 727 Kentucky St., will be open from 1 to 6 p.m. Monday. The Indoor Aquatic Center will be closed.
Administrative offices in South Park and Prairie Park Nature Center will be closed Monday, but Sports Pavilion Lawrence will be open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., and the Community Building, Holcom Park and East Lawrence recreation centers will be open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
No unified recreation programs, lifelong recreation or fitness, dance, martial arts, instructional classes, open gym gymnastics, ninja, gymnastics, adult or youth sports will be held Monday. Youth sports practices will be up to the coaches, according to the release.
Eagle Bend Golf Course will accept tee times from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday, and the range will be open from 7 a.m. to dusk.
The cemeteries office will be closed, but all cemeteries will be open throughout the day.
Bert Nash Community Mental Health Center will be closed on Labor Day. If you or someone you know is in crisis, the Treatment & Recovery Center of Douglas County is available 24/7 at 1000 W. Second St. HeadQuarters Kansas crisis line is also available by calling 785-841-2345 or 988.
