Topeka police have arrested a 21-year-old man in connection with the July 20 shooting death of a Lawrence man.
Officers were dispatched around midnight Saturday, July 20 to a shooting in the 2900 block of Southwest Topeka Boulevard, according to a news release from the Topeka Police Department at the time. They found one person suffering from a gunshot wound. The person was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the release.
Following an investigation, Silas Bishop Amaru Kriner, of Baldwin City, was arrested early Thursday on suspicion of first-degree murder and aggravated robbery, according to an update from Topeka police.
The man killed was Earon Deayon Cooper, 31, of Lawrence, according to police.
Cooper was born in Topeka and graduated from Highland Park High School in 2011, according to his obituary. He was the oldest of six siblings, a husband, and a father of two children. He’s survived by his wife, daughter, parents, sister, four brothers and numerous other family members.
“He enjoyed dancing, bowling, going to the gym, and occasionally golfing. He swore he knew how to cook too,” according to his obituary. “He loved and cherished time with his family.”
Kriner was being held on $1 million cash or surety bond as of the time of publication, according to Shawnee County jail records. Court records indicated he had not yet been formally charged.
All arrestees and defendants in criminal cases should be presumed not guilty unless they are convicted.
