After postponing its first planned meeting, the Lawrence school district’s Boundary Advisory Committee will meet on Wednesday to begin evaluating high school boundaries.

The BAC’s charge this year is centered on high school boundaries, especially since Lawrence High School’s enrollment has been on a decline. Currently, students who reside north of 15th Street are assigned to Free State High School, and students who reside south of 15th Street are assigned to LHS.

Under the committee’s tentative timeline, members will hold two public input sessions in November and present their recommendations to the school board in early December.

Wednesday’s meeting was rescheduled from Aug. 28.

RSP & Associates, the consultant previously contracted to facilitate the committee’s work, will be taking on a reduced role this year, per the board’s direction. District spokesperson Julie Boyle previously said staff members are still working on an agreement with RSP. An updated version of the contract has not yet been brought before the school board for its consideration.

The BAC meeting is scheduled for 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 25 at the Facilities and Operations Office, 711 E. 23rd St., Building A. Meetings are open to the public to observe, but no public comment is allowed.

See a list of BAC members and a rough timeline for the committee on the district’s website, usd497.org/domain/2222.
