Douglas County voters will choose a new district attorney and four out of five commissioners in the Tuesday, Nov. 5 election. Here’s a glance at the candidates’ campaign contributions, expenditures and more.
See much more about each candidate, ballot questions and other races in our 2024 election guide at this link.
Campaign finance reports are public information. Anyone can search for reports through the Kansas secretary of state’s website, at this link, and through the Douglas County clerk’s website, at this link.
These reports include information on cash the candidates had on hand before this reporting period began on July 26; contributions the candidates have received from July 26 through Oct. 24; how much cash they had available for this period and how much they spent.
The charts show the totals; the reports, where available, show where the money came from and where it’s gone.
Early voting will be available from 8 a.m. to noon Monday, Nov. 4 at the county elections office, 711 W. 23rd St., Suite 1 in Lawrence.
Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 5. As long as you’re in line to vote by 7 p.m., you will be allowed to cast your ballot. Voters will need to report to their assigned polling places to vote on Election Day. Find out where to go by inputting your information or searching for an address at myvoteinfo.voteks.org/voterview.

Douglas County district attorney candidates
Democrat Dakota Loomis won his August primary election and will face Republican Mike Warner in Tuesday’s election. This election will be on all Douglas County voters’ ballots.
The data shown for Warner in this chart also includes a last-minute contribution noted in a separate report he filed with the state, which is why the numbers in the chart don’t line up with the overview of his campaign account on the first page of his full report. Loomis had reported no last-minute contributions for this cycle as of Sunday.

If you’re not sure, you can check which district you’re in by visiting myvoteinfo.voteks.org.
District 2:
Democratic incumbent Shannon Reid won her August primary and will face Independent Brad Chun in Tuesday’s election.
District 3:
Democratic incumbent Karen Willey will face Republican Pam McDermott, who won her August primary, on Tuesday.
District 4:
Democrat Gene Dorsey and Republican Timothy Bruce will face off Tuesday to represent this new county commission district. They will also face Libertarian Steve Jacob, for whom no campaign finance report was available on the Douglas County clerk’s website.
Bruce’s campaign finance report linked on the clerk’s website as of Sunday was not his report, likely due to a technical issue beyond Bruce’s control. We have emailed Bruce to request his report and will update this post if we receive it.
Timothy Bruce — Republican
To be added
District 5:
Democrat Erica Anderson and Republican Rich Lorenzo will face off Tuesday to represent this new county commission district. They will also face Libertarian Kirsten Kuhn, for whom no campaign finance report was available on the Douglas County clerk’s website.
Lorenzo’s report, as uploaded on the clerk’s website, does not include the complete report of contributions and expenditures. We have emailed him and his campaign treasurer to request the complete report and will update this post if we receive it.
