Much to the relief of the Lawrence community, Santa has been rescued from the rooftop of Weaver’s Department Store once again.
Each year, the jolly one somehow manages to get stuck on the building’s roof; fortunately, Lawrence-Douglas County Medical firefighters bring a tall ladder when they come to his aid, ensuring that he makes it to safety.
This year, host Kim Murphree of KLWN speculated that the reindeer may have headed to North Lawrence to hang out at Johnny’s Tavern, leaving Santa behind.
The annual downtown Lawrence event kicks off the holiday season. There are a lot of holiday-themed events in the coming days, and we’ve rounded up all the upcoming holiday markets, musical performances, chances to see Santa and other festive fun that we can find. See it all at lawrencekstimes.com/holiday2024.
Townspeople watched with bated breath as firefighters scaled their ladder, gave Santa his safety gear and helped him down to the ground.
