Here’s a quick glance at closures, service changes and more for the Christmas and New Year’s holidays in Lawrence.
• Lawrence Transit: There will be no transit service on Wednesday, Dec. 25 or Jan. 1. Central Station will also be closed both days.
However, transit services will be fare-free again for 2025, and that starts Thursday, Jan. 2.
• Parking downtown at meters and in lots and garages will be free on Wednesday, Dec. 25 and Jan. 1.
• Solid waste pickup will be completed one day later than normally scheduled during both holiday weeks for customers whose pickup days are Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Regular Wednesday collection customers’ trash will be picked up on Thursday, and so on.
There will be no yard waste collections and no bulk item pickups throughout the week, and no roll-off services, cart swaps, deliveries or maintenance on the holidays or on the Saturday of the holiday weeks.
• Douglas County District Court and the district attorney’s office will be closed Tuesday, Dec. 24 and Wednesday, Dec. 25, as well as Wednesday, Jan. 1.
• City of Lawrence and Douglas County offices as well as satellite offices will be closed Wednesday, Dec. 25 and Jan. 1.
The Lawrence City Commission’s next meeting will be Tuesday, Jan. 7. The next Douglas County Commission meeting will be Wednesday, Jan. 15 at the historic courthouse, 1100 Massachusetts St.
• Lawrence Parks & Rec facilities will be closed Wednesday, Dec. 25 and Jan. 1, as will the administrative and cemetery offices. Eagle Bend Golf Course will also be closed Tuesday, Dec. 24 and Dec. 31.
The Community Building, East Lawrence Recreation Center and Holcom Park Recreation Center will be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 24 and 31. Sports Pavilion Lawrence will be open from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 24 and 31.
Prairie Park Nature Center will be open from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Dec. 24 and 31.

• The Lawrence Indoor Aquatic Center, 4706 Overland Drive, will have altered hours around the holidays.
Lap swimming hours will be from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 23; Friday, Dec. 27; Monday, Dec. 30; and Friday, Jan. 3; from 6:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 24 and 31; and from 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 26 and Jan. 2.
Warm water workout will be from 10:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Monday, Dec. 23; Thursday, Dec. 26; Friday, Dec. 27; Monday, Dec. 30; Thursday, Jan. 2; and Friday, Jan. 3, as well as from 8 to 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 24 and 31.
The zero depth and children’s area with slide will be available from 1 to 5 p.m. Monday, Dec. 23; Thursday, Dec. 26; Friday, Dec. 27; Monday, Dec. 30; Thursday, Jan. 2; and Friday, Jan. 3, as well as from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 24 and 31.
• The Lawrence Public Library will be closed Tuesday, Dec. 24 and Wednesday, Dec. 25. It will close at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 31 and will be closed Wednesday, Jan. 1. The digital library is open 24/7.
• The Lawrence Arts Center is closed Friday, Dec. 20 through Wednesday, Jan. 1. It will reopen at 9 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 2.
• The Lawrence Humane Society will be closed on Wednesday, Dec. 25 but open for adoptions from noon to 6 p.m. through Monday, Dec. 23, and from noon to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 24.
• Bert Nash Community Mental Health Center will be closed Tuesday, Dec. 24 and Wednesday, Dec. 25, as well as Tuesday, Dec. 31 and Wednesday, Jan. 1.

• Lawrence-Douglas County Public Health will be closed Tuesday, Dec. 24 and Wednesday, Dec. 25.
• School resumes on Monday, Jan. 6 for Lawrence Public Schools and Eudora schools. It resumes Tuesday, Jan. 7 for Baldwin City schools.
• Spring semester classes begin Tuesday, Jan. 21 for Haskell Indian Nations University and the University of Kansas. They begin Monday, Jan. 27 for Baker University.
