Van Go is bringing back its May Day Hey Day in a new format that will offer community members snacks, cooking demonstrations, yoga, bike maintenance and more.

The event is set for 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 3 at Van Go, 715 New Jersey St. in East Lawrence. It’s free to attend and all are welcome.

The Douglas County arts-based, nonprofit organization teaches young people ages 14-24 job and life skills. Its “Go Healthy” wellness initiative is central to all its programs, according to a news release from the organization.

“Go Healthy provides a holistic approach to self-care and wellness that teaches youth that when they take good care of themselves outside of the work environment, they are the best prepared to perform in the workplace and enjoy a healthy lifestyle,” according to the release.

Saturday’s event will also include information on community resources to support healthy minds and bodies.

In previous years, May Day Hey Day has been a fundraiser ride/walk/run/roll through the Lawrence Loop, followed by a party at Van Go.

“We are excited about the recreation of this event from a traditional fundraiser benefitting Van Go to a family-friendly and free resource fair highlighting so many local community partners who also work within the health sphere,” Van Go Executive Director Lori McSorley said in the release.
