*We are not election workers*
This Tuesday, July 13 is your last chance to register if you want to vote in the city primary election, which is Tuesday, Aug. 3.
In case you’ve missed it, Lawrence voters will pick the top six candidates for Lawrence City Commission and the Lawrence school board. They’ll move on to the November general election. Get up to speed and meet the candidates at this link.
You can register to vote online from any smartphone, tablet or computer with internet access in about five minutes at ksvotes.org. You do not need a Kansas driver’s license or ID to register there.
If you think you’re registered but you’re not sure, you can double-check, too. You can also change your party affiliation, though none of the city races are partisan.
In Kansas, people who have been charged and/or convicted of misdemeanors may vote. People who have been charged but not convicted of felonies retain the right to vote.
People who have been convicted of felonies and lost their voting rights but completed any sentence and post-release supervision periods may reregister. However, it is a felony to vote if your voting rights are currently revoked. Here’s more info from the Kansas secretary of state’s office.

Vote early by mail
Want to vote on your own schedule? Advance voting begins Wednesday, July 14.
If you want to request an advance ballot to be mailed to you, you can do that at ksvotes.org, also. No ID is required. The last day to request a ballot to be mailed to you is Tuesday, July 27.
The county pays for the postage to send your ballot back. You can also drop it in a dropbox at one of the two election offices at the advance voting sites shown below. Mail ballots must be postmarked on or before Election Day, Tuesday, Aug 3.
People who have permanent illnesses or disabilities may apply for permanent advance voting status. More information about that is available on the county’s website at this link.
