Just one week remains for voters to register or update their registration in order to vote in the Tuesday, Aug. 5 primary election.

Tuesday, July 15 is the final day to register to vote or update your voter registration for the primary election.

Douglas County voters can register quickly, update their voter registration if they’ve moved or had any other changes, and/or request a mail ballot online at KSVotes.org.

If you need to check on your voter registration, visit myvoteinfo.voteks.org.

Two Lawrence City Commission seats will be on the ballot, but voters must first narrow the field of 13 commission candidates down to four. The seats are nonpartisan, and no party affiliation is necessary to vote in this primary.

The four candidates who receive the most votes in the August primary will advance to the general election on Tuesday, Nov. 4. Three Lawrence school board seats will also be on November ballots.

In-person advance voting will be available and the elections office will mail out advance ballots starting Wednesday, July 16.

The final day to request a ballot to be mailed to you to vote in the primary is Tuesday, July 29.

Ballots do not require a stamp to mail back, but because of postal delays, voters might wish to put their ballots in dropboxes by 7 p.m. on Election Day — Tuesday, Aug. 5 — to ensure they are counted. More than 200 ballots were not counted last August because they did not arrive on time, despite being postmarked in July.

A new Kansas lawSenate Bill 4, which three Kansas civic organizations are challenging in a Douglas County District Court lawsuit — is slated to go into effect in January 2026. That law eliminates a three-day grace period for mailed ballots to arrive at election offices. All ballots will have to arrive at the elections office by 7 p.m. on Election Day in order to be counted.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5.

Voter registration will reopen after the primary until Tuesday, Oct. 14, ahead of the Nov. 4 general election.
