Attendance and behavior issues among students who transferred from the now-closed Pinckney and Broken Arrow elementary schools last year have improved, a district administrator told the school board Wednesday.
Attendance and behavior has improved among students who transferred from two elementary schools the Lawrence school board closed, according to the district. Board members will also hear an update on plans for the STEAM school at LMCMS.
After the Lawrence school board voted to close two elementary schools last year, some local families now wrestling with doubts about their future in the district and the community.

A school is more than just a building, said parents, students and other community members Saturday at a public hearing on the possible closure of Broken Arrow Elementary. Instead, they said, it’s part of a community.
The Lawrence school district has announced that Amanda Green, a curriculum and instructional learning coach at Broken Arrow Elementary School, will fill the position of interim principal, effective July 1.
