The City of Lawrence and Douglas County are looking to establish a shelter for families experiencing homelessness, and they’ll be one step closer to that goal if a $750,000 budget request gets approved.
Douglas County’s proposed budget for 2025 would keep property tax rates flat but increase taxes for most residents because valuations have increased. Commissioners also could still add $20 million in expenditures.
Some Douglas County residents ages 65 and up as well as some veterans with disabilities will be eligible to apply for property tax rebates starting in 2025.
