Cyclospora cases rise in Kansas, following report of two deaths nationally

Kansas cases of a gastrointestinal illness typically caused by an organism on produce rose to 615 as of Wednesday, up about 150 cases from last week, according to a state infectious disease dashboard.

Kansas cases of cyclosporiasis, an infection that causes gastrointestinal illness increased to 289 over the past week, and the state’s health agency said they are connected to a national outbreak.

Kansas cases of a foodborne illness that causes explosive diarrhea doubled this week to 55, and a national health agency said cases exceeded 7,000 nationwide.
