The renovated Douglas County Commission meeting room in the historic courthouse was completed just in time for new elected officials to be sworn in Monday.
The Douglas County Commission’s meeting room will have space at the dais for the two new commissioners joining in the new year. The room has also undergone restoration, renovation, reconfiguration and more.
Douglas County commissioners on Wednesday approved an $82 million project budget for improvements and an expansion of the downtown Judicial and Law Enforcement Center as well as a new Public Safety Building to be constructed next to the jail.
The Douglas County Commission’s meeting room in the historic downtown courthouse will soon see an estimated $1.36 million in renovations to make room for two new commissioners coming to the dais.

The historic county courthouse has water damage — from the attic all the way down to the basement, Douglas County Administrator Sarah Plinsky told commissioners during their Wednesday meeting.
