Updated article: A man who has become well-known in Lawrence for his protests of mask mandates was arrested Saturday morning for allegedly threatening people with a sign post as they attempted to enter a vaccine clinic for kids.
An anti-masker’s profane outburst targeting Kansas Reflector editor Sherman Smith is now posted online after initially being edited out of a video of a Kansas legislative committee meeting, prompting concerns about the legislature’s transparency.
The 28 seconds of profane commentary by Justin Spiehs during a special legislative committee hearing on COVID-19 government overreach was cut from the publicly available video of oral testimony on the Legislature’s website and posted to YouTube.
Updated to add video: Lawrence police were investigating Thursday after a reported altercation involving signs near an elementary school, where an anti-mask protester and pro-mask counter-protesters have been stationed often since school began last month.

A protester has added his anti-mask message to the morning routine at Sunset Hill Elementary School, leading some in the Lawrence community to express concerns for safety.
