Jacy Hurst, of Lawrence, was sworn in as a judge on the Kansas Court of Appeals Friday morning. Chief Judge Karen Arnold-Burger became a bit emotional as she noted that Hurst is the first Black woman to serve on the appellate courts of Kansas.
An attorney argued Thursday that his client was convicted based on a coroner’s junk science, aided by a natural human desire to hold someone accountable for the tragic death of a 9-month-old baby.
Lesley Ann Isherwood, formerly senior assistant district attorney of Sedgwick County, was sworn in Friday to the Kansas Court of Appeals. She fills a vacancy left by Judge Steve Leben’s resignation.
