The future is murky for a Lawrence school district bakery project as well as projects at four local farms and vineyards after their grant funding was frozen this week under orders from Trump and DOGE.
Under a permanent quarantine the Kansas Department of Agriculture has endorsed, the Callery pear tree couldn’t be sold or planted anywhere in Kansas after Jan. 1, 2027.
Local conservationists will cheer if Kansas moves forward with a ban on selling popular but invasive ornamental pear trees in the state.
