In addition to helping private landowners conserve and protect natural havens for the public’s benefit, a Douglas County program could potentially branch into protecting urban agricultural land in perpetuity.

Due to winter conditions Wednesday, Douglas County and the Kansas Land Trust have postponed the first public informational meeting about a new land protection pilot program.
Douglas County is rolling out a pilot program that incentivizes private landowners to participate in permanent land conservation for the public’s benefit.
“Together, we can build upon our Kansas values of land and water conservation by supporting the 30X30 initiative,” Jerry Jost writes in this letter to the Times.
