Despite hearing from more than a dozen people in opposition, Lawrence city commissioners on Tuesday voted 3-1 to stop livestreaming their meetings on YouTube.
At least one Lawrence City Commission seat will change hands in the upcoming election as a longtime incumbent did not file for reelection. Altogether, 13 candidates filed before Monday’s noon deadline.

Lawrence city commissioners on Tuesday will consider adopting a resolution to no longer livestream their meetings on YouTube rather than stream the entire meetings, including the general public comment periods.
So far in the 2025 local elections, 12 Lawrence City Commission candidates and five Lawrence school board candidates have filed to run. The deadline to file is noon Monday.

The City of Lawrence is “exploring the risks associated with potentially losing $8M in funding,” according to a statement regarding a draft resolution that pledged the city would stop enforcing its equal rights ordinances in order to comply with Trump’s executive orders.

A resolution city staff members were asking the Lawrence City Commission to approve, which pledged to indefinitely suspend enforcement of equal rights ordinances in hopes of maintaining federal funding, is no longer on Tuesday’s meeting agenda.
