Developers have announced that Costco is set to open this fall as the “anchor” of a mixed-used development springing up in west Lawrence that will also include an ice cream and dairy store.

Planning commissioners gave nods of approval to one zoning request to allow houses to be built at the former Dragon’s Hoard location and another for Bert Nash to construct apartments off Sixth and Rockledge.
Costco has filed plans to open a full-service store with many of its classic amenities south of Rock Chalk Park, and the site proposal is now under administrative review by City of Lawrence staff.
There are more than 300 Braum’s Ice Cream and Dairy Stores, but none closer to Lawrence than Emporia, more than an hour drive away. That could soon change.
