Many Lawrence community members whose lives have been touched by cancer gathered Friday night for Relay for Life, an annual fundraiser to support cancer research.

Allie Montgomery, 32, is a second-generation brain cancer survivor. The Relay for Life has given her hope throughout her teens and adulthood, and Montgomery wants to share that belief in the future with other Douglas County residents.

If you’ve lived in Lawrence more than a few years, you’ve probably crossed paths with Bob Silipigni. Since 2001, he’s traversed the streets of his hometown and raised almost a million dollars in the fight to end cancer.
Organizers of the annual global event and fundraiser hosted by the American Cancer Society have planned a big comeback for the 2022 Douglas County Relay for Life.
