“To me, it symbolizes freedom – how they broke out like birds,” Lawrence quilter and historian Marla Jackson said of an 1800s quilt believed to be made by a Black person who was enslaved.
“The Watkins Museum of History is excited to announce the return of a popular event series: Watkins Summer Games,” the museum writes.
As part of the Watkins Museum’s art competition and exhibit, elementary, middle and high school students are encouraged to submit original artwork expressing their school’s uniqueness.
