City soon to reopen 9th Street to traffic, plans to reconstruct Watson Park basketball court

The end of full road closures on Ninth Street is in sight as the Jayhawk Watershed Project progresses. Plus, the city plans to replace the basketball court torn out of Watson Park.

Next phase of Jayhawk Watershed work will affect parts of Tennessee and 7th streets, Watson Park

The City of Lawrence will expand construction for the Jayhawk Watershed project starting Monday. This phase will affect traffic on Tennessee and Seventh streets, plus access to the Watson Park basketball court.

Historic resources staff members with the city will hold an open house this weekend to seek feedback on possibly listing Watson Park on the Lawrence Register of Historic Places.

The city plans to remove the basketball court in Watson Park, which is prone to flooding, during the summer as part of ongoing construction, and it’s not yet clear whether a new court will replace it.
