Lawrence Community Shelter will be only local winter shelter; no one will be turned away in emergencies
The only option for folks to seek shelter from the cold this winter will be the Lawrence Community Shelter, the city has announced, and the city says no one will be turned away in an emergency despite the new residency policy.
City of Lawrence announces second snow plow naming contest; community can vote on winner
The City of Lawrence is again asking residents to help name a snow plow, and this year, the final choice will go to a community vote.
Heat advisory issued for Lawrence, Douglas County
Lawrence and parts of northeastern Kansas will be under a heat advisory again Friday as heat indices well above 100° are expected.
Douglas County is in a flood watch; could see ‘torrential’ rain
Douglas County and much of Kansas are in a flood watch effective from noon Thursday through 1 p.m. Friday, according to the National Weather Service.

Lawrence and Douglas County could see more storms Friday and Saturday and should expect heat indices around 105° as an extreme heat warning goes into effect.
Lawrence couple questions Evergy policy after power outage in high heat
A Lawrence couple is voicing concerns about what could’ve happened when Evergy unexpectedly cut their electricity for hours on a 90-degree day this week. Long outages without notice could be dangerous for people, pets and food.

The National Weather Service has issued the first heat advisory of the season for Friday and Saturday as heat indices above 100° are in the forecast for Lawrence.
