Severe storms possible overnight, Tuesday in Lawrence amid weather radio outage
Douglas County could see storms including hail, damaging winds, tornados and flash flooding overnight and Tuesday, and the county’s emergency management department warns that weather radio service is currently in an outage.

Lawrence school district to add makeup time into school days, extra days at end of year
The Lawrence school district will make up for nine inclement weather days this year by tacking minutes onto the end of school days and adding a day and a half day to the end of the year.
Power restored for most of Lawrence; some scattered outages should be resolved soon
Most of Lawrence had power restored by 5 p.m. Wednesday following high winds from a storm overnight that at one point left 2,400 Evergy customers without power.
Deerfield Elementary, district building closed because of power outage; phone lines restored at all other buildings
Deerfield Elementary School and the Lawrence school district offices are closed Wednesday because of a neighborhood power outage. Phone lines are now working at all district buildings except for those two.

More than 2,400 Evergy customers in Lawrence were without power as of 12:45 a.m. Wednesday as strong winds blew through the area.

Douglas County to host severe weather training; tornado siren tests planned
As part of Severe Weather Preparedness Month, Douglas County Emergency Management will host a severe weather training session on March 13. It’s free and open to the public.
Thunderstorms, high winds likely in Douglas County; snow could return
Lawrence and parts of northeastern Kansas should expect rain and thunderstorms overnight into Tuesday, followed by possible snow Tuesday night into Wednesday.
Lawrence schools closed because of extreme cold, plus more closures for Thursday, Feb. 20
Lawrence Public Schools will be closed again as the coldest of cold temperatures this week are expected overnight and into Thursday morning. That + more closures here.

• For down powerlines, call Evergy’s emergency line, 800-383-1183, if above-ground lines are arcing or making contact with trees or vegetation. Call 911 immediately if overhead power lines are on the ground or a fire starts. Do not go near the line.
