He will read from his poetic memoir, “beautiful ashe: memoirs of a sweet black boy & More.” Preorders for the memoir begin the following Wednesday, March 31.

“His reading will explore the juxtaposition of American Hyper-Capitalism (Babylon) and the beauty of the African-Self (beautiful ashe),” according to the Facebook event page.

Spann-Ryan will be joined by author Mercedes Lucero and musician/poet Alex Kimball Williams, who helped edit and format the memoir.

No registration is required for the event, slated for 6 p.m. Saturday. Visit this Zoom link to attend.

Spann-Ryan is also Lawrence’s 2016 Langston Hughes Poetry Award recipient. Read more about him and some featured writings on his website, taiamri.com. There is also an option to sign up for email updates about the memoir.
