The family of Cassandra Rose Anderson, 23, has started an online fundraiser to help with funeral expenses for the young mother.

Anderson was struck by a train Tuesday night in North Lawrence. First responders attempted to render aid, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

“On Tuesday we unexpectedly lost Cassie Anderson and our family was not prepared for the devastating news nor were we prepared for the cost of everything,” Anderson’s sister, Dawn Harrison, wrote on the GoFundMe page

Any donations received will help pay for Anderson’s funeral, and any leftover funds will be put in a trust for her son, Nikolai, Harrison wrote.

“Cassie, you were such an amazing mother to Nikolai and a great friend to everyone around you. You had a smile that could light up the room you were in and a laugh that was so contagious,” Harrison wrote. “Right now, I don’t have a lot of words to share but I want to say I love you, we all love you, we miss you already. You will forever be in our hearts.”

As of early Friday, the fundraiser had reached $3,160 of its goal of $7,500. The family appreciates anything that can be given, “but just prayers are welcome as well,” Harrison wrote.
