Lawrence police arrested a man Friday in connection with the accidental shooting death of a 2-year-old boy a week ago, according to a news release from the department.
The 21-year-old Lawrence man was being held without bond at the Douglas County jail on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter, aggravated child endangerment, and possession of a stolen handgun as of Friday afternoon.
First responders tried to save the boy, Legend King. He was taken to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
A friend of the family has started a GoFundMe to help raise money for the boy’s funeral. As of Friday afternoon, it had reached $6,300 of its $8,000 goal.
