The Rev It Up! Hot Rod Street Festival returned to downtown Lawrence Saturday, and for the first time, it’s partnering with the Sustainability Action Network for the Lawrence Electric Vehicle Showcase.

Rev It Up is a benefit for the Ballard Center. You can also help by bringing nonperishable food, shampoo, laundry soap and other household goods to the street festival to fill the center’s pantry, according to the show’s website.

National Drive Electric Week is Sept. 25 – Oct. 3.

“Electric vehicles are smooth and quiet, with high torque and instant acceleration. Driving on electricity is about five times cheaper than fueling with gasoline, and maintenance is cheaper too,” according to a news release from the Sustainability Action Network. “Because they get 100mpg equivalent or better, EVs are one the most effective ways that motor vehicles can reduce petroleum use and cut air pollution.”
