Raymond B. Schell, 85, was heading eastbound near milemarker 15 on K-10 around 10:50 a.m. when his vehicle ran off the road near the East 1900 Road exit, according to the sheriff’s office.

“After preliminary investigation, deputies determined the vehicle was eastbound on K-10, veered off the south side of the highway and struck a bridge pillar,” according to a news release from the sheriff’s office.

Schell was the only person in his vehicle.

It was the second fatality on the highway in Douglas County Monday. The first was a single-vehicle crash shortly after 3 a.m. on the exit ramp from westbound K-10 to 23rd Street.

“The investigations into each crash by deputies with the Accident Reconstruction Team are still ongoing, and further information won’t be available until the accident reports are complete,” George Diepenbrock, spokesperson for the sheriff’s office, said via email Monday afternoon. “The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office offers condolences to friends and family members of the individuals in both fatality crashes.”
