There will be a second snow day Friday for Lawrence Public Schools, the district announced Thursday afternoon.

“This decision is based on continued safety concerns with travel as well as blowing snow preventing us from keeping parking lots and sidewalks clear so they do not refreeze overnight,” district spokesperson Julie Boyle said in an email to school families.

“Since there is no additional snow in Friday’s forecast and our grounds crews will have the day to clear parking lots and sidewalks, scheduled school activities may be held tomorrow at the discretion of the school administration,” the email continued. “Participants will be notified by their schools of those plans.”

Eudora schools will also be closed Friday, according to a tweet from the district.

“Due to the significant amount of snow, winter weather, & road conditions, classes will be canceled for Friday, Feb. 18. All district schools, including the Eudora-De Soto Tech Ed. Ctr, will be closed. Decisions regarding tomorrow night’s games will be made by noon on Friday,” the tweet said.

The Baldwin City school district had not announced on its Facebook page a plan to cancel school as of the time of publication.

The University of Kansas plans to open campus for classes Friday; however, all classes that begin before 9 a.m. will be canceled, according to an update posted at alerts.ku.edu Thursday evening.
