Amy McAnarney, associate principal of Free State High School, will soon take over the principal position, the Lawrence school district announced Monday evening.

McAnarney is in her seventh year as an administrator at Free State, according to the release.

During those years, “I have come to care deeply for our school community, and I am honored to serve as its next principal,” McAnarney said in the release. “I have a tremendous amount of pride in our talented students, hard-working staff, and exceptional programs.”

She will take over following the retirement of Myron Graber at the end of June, pending school board approval.

“Amy is a relationship-builder and a student-focused instructional leader,” Superintendent Anthony Lewis said in the release. “She has been instrumental in the school community’s planning around redesign and will continue to lead that process forward by strengthening community partnerships and supporting our scholars with personalized learning, social-emotional growth, and college and career readiness.”

The district will evaluate the associate principal position along with other staffing vacancies as part of the budget planning process, according to the release.
