Hundreds of community members gathered in Eudora Thursday evening for a candlelight vigil to honor and memorialize Brooklyn Brouhard.

The 10-year-old girl died from injuries she suffered as the passenger of a motorcycle that her grandfather, Barry Larson, 54, was driving when the two were struck by a van that fled the scene.

Both were taken to an area hospital after the crash on Saturday; Brooklyn had critical injuries, and she died the next morning. She was a student at Eudora Elementary School.

Investigators on Monday believed they had located the van that struck the motorcycle but were still seeking its driver. Douglas County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson George Diepenbrock said Thursday afternoon that there were no updates.

Brooklyn’s parents are Kyle Brouhard and Shelby Ledom. A fundraiser for her funeral expenses raised nearly $20,000, beyond its goal of $15,000.
