The graduation ceremony was previously set for 7 p.m. Wednesday. The district has moved it to the backup date because of the ongoing bad weather.

“The time change is the district’s attempt to give senior student-athletes competing in state competition in Wichita more time to return to Lawrence to participate in graduation,” according to an email from district spokesperson Julie Boyle.

“Understanding that schedule changes create hardships for some staff and families, we sincerely apologize and hope that adjustments in plans can be made.”

As of just before noon, the National Weather Service forecast showed rain likely through the rest of Wednesday. There was a 40% chance of showers on Thursday. The forecast for Friday and beyond showed sunny skies.

Free State High School’s graduation is still set for 7 p.m. Thursday, May 26.
