Elaina Honas, special education coordinator of secondary transition programs and building administrator at East Heights, has been selected as Lawrence High School’s new assistant principal.
The position change is effective July 1, pending school board approval, according to a news release from the district on Friday. This was the second of two assistant principal vacancies at Lawrence High. Greg Farley recently filled the first.
East Heights houses the district’s Community Community Transition and Project Search programs and its secondary therapeutic classroom.
“I am grateful for the time I have had at East Heights. The students, staff, and families have established a community, and I wish them continued success,” Honas said in the release. “I am very excited about joining the Lawrence High Chesty Lion family! I look forward to building relationships and working with all of the students, families, faculty, and staff. I am extremely grateful for this opportunity!” she said.
LHS Principal Jessica Bassett said in the release that LHS is glad to add Honas to the team.
“She brings fresh ideas and perspectives that will support LHS’s continued growth toward excellence,” Bassett said. “Elaina is a team player and can provide expertise in special education as we move toward a more inclusive model. She is innovative and has shared ideas around parent involvement from her work at East Heights. We know that she will be a valuable asset at LHS.”
LHS’s administration team now consists of Bassett, Associate Principal Mark Preut, Assistant Principal and Athletic Director Mike Gillman, Farley and Honas, according to the release.
