Tom Fagan, who served as interim chief of Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical starting in December 2021, has been selected as chief of the Marion, Iowa Fire Department, the city announced Friday.
“I am appreciative of the time and all the experience I gained here in Lawrence and Douglas County,” Fagan said in a news release from the City of Lawrence. “I know it will help me in my next chapter and benefit the City of Marion. While I’m sad to leave Lawrence, I know that the Lawrence and Douglas County community is in very good hands with the superb LDCFM team.”
Lawrence City Manager Craig Owens thanked Fagan “for his excellent service, particularly for his work as Interim Chief,” according to the release. “I have complete confidence that Tom will shine in his new role and serve the City of Marion with the same dedicated excellence that he brought to our community.”
The city announced in July that Richard Llewellyn, an outside hire from Everett, Washington, would be the next chief of Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical. He started in his position on Wednesday, Porter Arneill, a spokesperson for the city, said via email.
Fagan, who started with LDCFM in 2018, will start his position in Marion at the end of September, according to the release. He was selected over one internal and two other external candidates in Marion, according to that city’s website.
