Grassroots-driven Bizarre Bazaar to offer unique gifts by Lawrence-area artisans

An annual Lawrence shopping tradition, complete with its quirky name, returns this weekend.

The Bizarre Bazaar, or BizBaz as it’s also known, gives shoppers an alternative to commercialized retail shopping the Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving.

This Lawrence original began more than 30 years ago. Exhibitors organize the event and serve on committees dedicated to advertising, decorating, setup and other areas.

BizBaz features the wares of more than 80 creatives. Included are illustrators,  authors, jewelers, painters, sculptors and more.

In addition to a variety of handmade gifts, the promotional pieces remain one-of-a-kind. Kasha Mika designed the 2022 poster, which reads “The one show you never want to miss.” T-shirts imprinted with the logo also will be sold at BizBaz.

The Bizarre Bazaar is set for 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 25, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 26, at the Lawrence Arts Center, 940 New Hampshire St. Admission is free.

For more information, visit the show’s website at this link, Facebook page or on Instagram, @bizbazks. Calls for 2022 artists were extended in May and spots filled by July, according to BizBaz’s social media posts.
