Here’s a quick glance at closures, service changes and more for the Christmas and New Year’s holidays in Lawrence.

• Parking downtown will be free on Sunday and Monday, Dec. 25-26 and Jan. 1-2.

The city is also offering two free hours of parking downtown through Dec. 24 for those who use the mobile apps ParkMobile or Passport Parking. Use the code “ParkLawrence22” at checkout on the app to receive a discount. Find more info at this link.

• Solid waste pickup will be completed on its normal schedule. However, there will be no yard waste collections, no bulk item pickups throughout the week, and no roll-off services, cart swaps, deliveries or maintenance on the holiday or Saturday of the holiday week.

• Lawrence Transit: There will be no transit service on Sunday, Dec. 25 or Jan. 1. However, transit services will be free in the new year, and that starts Monday, Jan. 2. (Note: Due to the extreme cold weather, transit services are canceled for Friday and Saturday, Dec. 23 and 24, also.)

• Douglas County District Court will be closed Friday, Dec. 23 and Monday, Dec. 26. (There will be no Friday morning traffic court on Dec. 23.)

The Douglas County district attorney’s office will also be closed Friday and Monday. Anyone with questions about a traffic ticket can email the DA’s traffic unit at datraffic@douglascountyks.org.

• Lawrence Parks & Rec facilities — with the exception of the Community Building as the Winter Emergency Shelter — will be closed Sunday, Dec. 25 and Jan. 1. Facilities will operate on special hours for the holiday weekends; those are listed at this link.

• The Lawrence Public Library will be open for shortened hours, from noon to 6 p.m. Friday (Dec. 23).

It will be closed on Saturday, Dec. 24, as well as Sunday and Monday, Dec. 25-26 and Jan. 1-2, but the digital library is open 24/7.

• The Winter Emergency Shelter at the Lawrence Community Building, 115 W. 11th St., will be open 24/7 until 7 a.m. Tuesday (Dec. 27). The building will also be open around the clock on Sunday, Jan. 1.

• Bert Nash Community Mental Health Center will be closed Friday (Dec. 23) through Monday, Dec. 26. If you or someone you know needs help during that time, call 785-843-9192, or call or text 988.

• Lawrence-Douglas County Public Health will be closed Friday (Dec. 23) through Monday, Dec. 26.
