A local organization is seeking donations of new or gently worn formal wear and prom dresses to be distributed to local high school students for free.

Prom Dress Lawrence “puts on this event so high school students have the opportunity to refresh their formal wear without breaking the bank,” according to their website. Read more about them in this article from 2021.

Specifically, the group is seeking prom dresses, formal and party dresses, suits, ties, tuxedos, dress slacks, button-up dress shirts, dress shoes and heels, formal jewelry and brown and black leather belts. Organizers ask that items be in good shape with no rips or stains.

This year, donations will be accepted from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21 at Lawrence High School in the atrium, the school’s main entrance. The formal wear giveaway is set for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28 in the same location.

If you can’t make it to bring a donation on Saturday, items can be dropped off through Wednesday, Jan. 25, at the following locations:

Lawrence High School during office hours; please call the office to make arrangements at 785-832-5050
Ditto, A Resale Boutique, 4000 W. Sixth St., Suite J (785-856-4321)
Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vermont St.

If you have items to donate or want to volunteer to help, email promdresslawrence@gmail.com or call 785-330-5356.
