A moped driver was critically injured in a crash Tuesday morning in Lawrence, according to police.

The crash, involving a car and a moped, occurred around 7:30 a.m. at the intersection of 23rd and Alabama streets, according to a Facebook post from the Lawrence Police Department.

The moped driver was taken to a trauma center, according to the post.

“Investigators have reason to believe he was wearing a helmet, but that flew off at impact,” according to the post. “No other injuries were reported and those directly involved did stop and cooperate with investigators.”

The crash came almost exactly one day after a motorcyclist was killed in a collision on the other side of town. Monday morning, 36-year-old Donavan Edmonds died in a crash at McDonald Drive and Rockledge Road, police said.

The red pin on the map below shows the location of the intersection where Tuesday morning’s crash occurred.
