Lawrence middle school arrival, dismissal times changing; days shortened by 25 minutes

Lawrence middle schools will have new arrival and dismissal times for the upcoming 2023-24 school year.

School days will start at 8:15 a.m. and end at 2:56 p.m. On early-release Wednesdays, students will start at 8:15 a.m. and release at 1:53 p.m., changed from 1:35 p.m.

The new start time delays the beginning of the school day by 15 minutes for middle schoolers, who will also get out of school 10 minutes earlier than last year — a total of 25 minutes less time in school each day. The change applies at all four middle schools.

The changes are being implemented alongside wide-ranging middle school curriculum changes approved by the school board at the end of last school year that included staffing cuts, new class organization and new staff plan time.

The new district bell schedule and annual calendar can be viewed in full via USD497.org. None of the other schools’ start times have changed from the 2022-23 year.

More resources, including a districtwide school bus schedule and school supply lists, can be found in the back-to-school newsletter
