As of 9 a.m. Friday, the city is no longer asking people to limit water usage.

Original post:

Following a water main break in Lawrence, the city is asking people to limit their water usage through Friday.

The break, near 23rd and Iowa streets, was in a water main that supplies water from the Clinton Water Treatment Plant to a large portion of the community, according to a news release from the city.

“Currently, there is no impact on drinking water service,” according to the release. “The City is using a secondary water main to route water around while the repair is being made. Crews will be working through the night to bring the water main back into service.”

But the city is asking people to limit outdoor watering, washing vehicles and refilling pools through Friday, July 28. Shortening showers is another way to reduce usage.

“The City recognizes this is a high demand time for water in the community,” according to the release. “However, it is also important with the excessive heat that we all help where possible to allow the City refill water towers overnight, so they are ready for the next day.”

The city will provide updates when the break is fixed.
