The Kansas Jayhawks are 2-0 after a 34-23 victory Friday night over the Fighting Illini.

Several Jayhawks said they were hyped to see so many fans wearing black for the planned blackout. The team wore special “Blackhawk” uniforms featuring the 1941 Jayhawk, known as the “war hawk.”

Fans welcomed back junior quarterback Jalon Daniels, who had not played in a game since the Liberty Bowl last season. Head coach Lance Leipold said during the post-game press conference that Daniels “didn’t show any rust.”

The Jayhawks travel to Reno to face Nevada at 9:30 p.m. CST Saturday, Sept. 16.

Daniels told media that he and his teammates may be 2-0, but in their minds, they’re 0-0, and they’re going into Nevada next week “with a chip on our shoulder.”

The Jayhawks begin conference play the following week, taking on Big 12 newcomers Brigham Young on Sept. 23 at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium (time TBA). See the team’s 2023 season schedule at this link.
