Henry Farthing grew up surrounded by art. This Friday, they will debut their own collection of prints and photographs that invite viewers to reflect on their own personal upbringings.
The collection, “You Should Probably Get Some Sleep,” is in partnership with Hang12, a group of local teenagers who curate local art exhibits and community events.
It will be available to view from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27 at the Lawrence Arts Center’s 10th and Mass Studios, 1000 Massachusetts St., Suite D.
The collection features 35 mm photographs and silkscreen prints that explore ideas of identity and the process of growing up in America.
“My inspiration for this body of work was just trying to make a collection of different types of visual media that tells the viewer about my identity, and hopefully reflects some of their experiences,” Farthing said on Hang12’s Instagram.
Farthing, a junior at Lawrence High School, grew up attending classes at the Lawrence Arts Center, which shaped their upbringing. The show will be their second individual art show.
“The show is not something I’ve ever really seen before, and it’s so impressive considering this is their second solo art show at such a young age,” said Maya Smith, an LHS senior who is in charge of social media and foundations for Hang12. “They’ve made the process so easy and organized for us, so I’m very grateful.”
Hang12 regularly produces art shows for Lawrence’s Final Friday events, which allow art exhibits, performances and more to take over Downtown Lawrence on the evening of the last Friday of each month.
