Lawrence man, 73, believed to be dead after silver alert issued

A Lawrence man who was reported missing Tuesday has been found dead, police believe.

Lawrence police said in an update late Tuesday night that a silver alert for missing Lawrence resident Jerry Adams, 73, has been canceled.

He has not yet been positively identified, but according to a Wednesday update, Adams’ vehicle was located with a deceased man inside.

“There has been no indication this case was a homicide, but we will await the coroner’s determination on cause and manner of death,” according to the update. “We will continue to work closely with our counterparts in the Kansas City Missouri Police Department as this case is investigated. We want to again offer our thanks to the public for their assistance, and our sincere condolences to Mr. Adams family.”

Lawrence police are asking for the public’s help to find Jerry Dean Adams, 73, of Lawrence.

Adams was reported missing Tuesday and has not been heard from since Monday, Dec. 11, according to a news release from the department.

Adams is believed to be driving a white 2002 Chevrolet full-size van with a Kansas license plate, 008MFS. The van was last known to be leaving Lawrence around 9:15 a.m. Dec. 11, according to the release.

Adams is described as a white man, approximately 5-foot-9, and he weighs around 300 pounds, according to a news release from the KBI. He is a diabetic and also has a heart condition, according to the KBI.

Anyone with information on Adams’ location or the location of his vehicle is asked to call 911.
