Closures, when downtown parking is free and more Lawrence holiday info

Here’s a quick glance at closures, service changes and more for the Christmas and New Year’s holidays in Lawrence.

• Lawrence Transit: There will be no transit service on Monday, Dec. 25 or Jan. 1. However, transit services will be fare-free again for 2024, and that starts Tuesday, Jan. 2.

The city is also rolling out new routes and new services with the new year; read more about that at this link.

The new Central Station near Bob Billings Parkway and Crestline Drive also opens on Jan. 2.

• Parking downtown will be free on Sunday and Monday, Dec. 24 and 25, and Dec. 31 and Jan. 1.

The city is also offering $2 off parking downtown through Dec. 23 for those who use the mobile apps ParkMobile or Passport Parking. Use the code “ParkLawrence23” at checkout on the app to receive a discount. Find more info at this link.

• Solid waste pickup will be completed one day later than normally scheduled during both holiday weeks. Monday routes will be collected on Tuesday, Tuesday routes on Wednesday, and so forth.

However, there will be no yard waste collections, no bulk item pickups throughout the week, and no roll-off services, cart swaps, deliveries or maintenance on the holiday or Saturday of the holiday week.

• City of Lawrence and Douglas County offices as well as satellite offices will be closed Monday, Dec. 25 and Monday, Jan. 1.

There will be no Douglas County Commission meetings on Wednesday, Dec. 27 or Jan. 3.

• Douglas County District Court will be closed Monday, Dec. 25, Tuesday, Dec. 26, and Monday, Jan. 1.

• Lawrence Parks & Rec facilities will be closed Monday, Dec. 25 and Jan. 1. Eagle Bend Golf Course will also be closed Sunday, Dec. 24. Facilities will operate on special hours for the holiday weekends; those are listed at this link.

• The Lawrence Public Library will be closed Saturday, Dec. 23 through Monday, Dec. 25, as well as Sunday, Dec. 31 and Monday, Jan. 1. The digital library is open 24/7.

• The Lawrence Arts Center is closed Thursday, Dec. 21 through Monday, Jan. 1.

• Bert Nash Community Mental Health Center will be closed Friday, Dec. 22 and Monday, Dec. 25, as well as Friday, Dec. 29 and Monday, Jan. 1. If you or someone you know needs help during that time, call 785-843-9192, or call or text 988.
