Kady Carson, currently the assistant principal and athletic director at Billy Mills Middle School, has been named the next principal of West Middle School.
Carson said in a news release from the district Monday that she’s incredibly excited to lead WMS.
“I love the Lawrence community and can’t wait to foster a collaborative culture and build trust among students, staff, and families,” she said in the release. “I will work to create a foundation where every member of the school community feels valued and empowered to contribute to our shared success.”
Carson earned a bachelor’s degree at Emporia State and her master’s at the University of Kansas, according to the release. She previously taught middle school math and robotics and coached volleyball for seven years in Ottawa. There, she was nominated for the Kansas Horizon Award and Kansas Teacher of the Year recognitions, according to the release.
Carson said she carries deep gratitude for her experiences at BMMS and that she’ll miss the cherished relationships she’s built.
Therese Edgecomb has been filling the role of interim principal this year. She was previously West’s assistant principal and athletic director.
Carson’s new position is effective July 1, pending school board approval.
